Location Matters
Middlesex County and Southwestern Ontario are actively promoting rural and farm-based tourism. The local tourism organizations feature alpaca walks, farm stays, animal encounters, flower farms, pick-your-own experiences and other rural activities as reasons for people to visit the area.
There is also evidence that this is more than just a passing trend. Ontario's government describes agritourism as a growing opportunity for farms to diversify income, and Ontario passed the Growing Agritourism Act, 2024 to provide additional liability protection for qualifying agritourism operations.
Most recently, Agritourism Ontario's 2026 economic growth study reported that the sector contributes an estimated $633 million in economic output annually and supports thousands of jobs across the province.
The location is also an advantage
Middlesex County is positioned between major highways and within reach of several population centres and border crossings. Destination Ontario specifically highlights the area's agricultural roots and farm experiences, including alpaca walks.
The area is already developing a reputation for unique rural stays and experiences. Farm stays, glamping, animal encounters and hands-on experiences are being actively promoted throughout Southwestern Ontario.
Our location also allows us to draw visitors from a much wider area. Middlesex County is positioned along major transportation routes and is within easy reach of London, Windsor and the Detroit area, as well as several other Canada–U.S. border crossings.
We are also well positioned for visitors travelling through Southwestern Ontario, including those heading toward popular destinations such as Stratford. This creates opportunities to attract both local visitors and tourists looking to add a unique farm experience to their trip.
An Established Destination
Over the years, we have worked hard to build S.A.M.Y.’s Alpaca Farm’s presence online. The farm is well established on Google, with hundreds of visitor reviews, and people can easily find us when searching for things to do in the area.
Our roadside signage along Highway 81 is another advantage. It catches the attention of people driving by and has brought us drop-in visitors who may not have originally planned to visit an alpaca farm.
